Expansion-Theory of-Water

  • When water is heated from 40C to 1000C it expands by roughly 4% of its own volume
  • When water turns to steam its expands by 1600 times of its own volume.
  • At 3 bar the boiling point of water is 143.60C. If water was to be stored at this temperature and a tap was opened, the cylinder would immediately drop back to atmospheric pressure. This would immediately drop back to atmospheric pressure, This would mean that the water inside would turn instantly to steam, flashing to steam would be done with such violent force it can easily demolish a building and seriously injure.
  • For this reason the unvented system must have four levels of protection for safety controls, all of which three are related with temperature and one is related with pressure.
